The Donning of the Kente Ceremony: The Hulon Willis Association
Saturday, June 7, 2025 | 2:30 pm - 3:15 pm
Sadler Center
In 2012, W&M graduating seniors adopted a new tradition — the Donning of the Kente Ceremony. This event recognizes the importance of Black and African heritage, culture and community in helping students achieve their aspirations. During Mosaic Weekend, alumni who may not have attended this ceremony as students will have the opportunity to participate with their family and friends. After processing onstage, participants will stand as a loved one or university representative places a Kente cloth stole around their shoulders, a personal and moving way to celebrate the strength of community and family.
After the ceremony, participants are invited to pose for a group photo.
Price: $25. The price covers the cost of your keepsake stole for the ceremony.
